Project 1
My personal narrative, Situaciones Incómodas, looks at a time when I realized living with multilingualism can have its negative effects. I grew up learning two different languages. I have always been asked, "What is your native language?" My answer is always, "I have no idea!” I grew up with it and this narrative describes the steps that I took in order for me to perfect my acquisition of the Spanish language while I also enhanced my vocabulary in the English language.

Project 2
In a personal narrative titled, “Situaciones Incómodas,” I describe my experience learning Spanish. As I reread my essay, I noticed examples of times I mixed both languages (words) in order have a conversation. This became very tedious because I began to use words in both languages incorrectly. I realized that I learned to differentiate them as two separate languages when I started translating. Together But Separate, describes how having both languages separate it allowed my knowledge in English help to complement my understanding in Spanish, but I believe that by separating the languages I could be more successful in the communication with society. I want to analyze the efficiency of separating languages and how that differs to Canagarajah’s views that society can still understand the mixture of languages with the help of context clues.

Project 3
THE POSSIBLE CURE TO LOSING YOUR MIND:
Acquiring an additional language is becoming more and more come in a society that is fixated in the highest success being a determinant of power. This multifaceted skill can bring copious life changing benefits: economically, socially and perhaps medically. The ability to speak two languages is far more fundamental than just being able to converse with a diverse array of people. Our brain acts as an assembly line that works by forming a thought in our mind and then actually executing into a spoken phrase. It is a broken down set of processes that intertwine for the realization of language production. Learning a second language and then speaking it regularly can actually improve your cognitive skills and interrupt the beginnings of neurological diseases such as dementia. The following sources will help show prior research that demonstrates how bilingualism can have an impact in one’s neurological health. |
Final Project
This is an interview based group project that is related to multilingualism. In this project, we conducted interviews with people who speak two or more languages and talked to them about their experiences with their languages. Our goal was to explore the effect an environment has on linguistic development. Here you will see interviewees from a variety of cultures. http://terminal17.weebly.com/
